In this mesmerizing woodturning project, I cast a sphere using gold, silver, and copper leaf from Easy Inlay embedded in Alumilite Clear Slow resin. Once cured, I mounted it on my Harvey T60S wood lathe and shaped it into a perfect sphere using the Paul Howard Sphere Jig (available from Simon Hope) and Easy Wood Tools carbide turning tools—with a negative rake cutter ideal for resin work.
The sphere was dry sanded to 400 grit using Klingspor abrasives, then wet sanded all the way up to a glassy 12,000 grit finish. For the resin base, I dry sanded to 400 grit and followed up with a beautiful finish using Yorkshire Grit Original and Yorkshire Grit Microfine.
