This large 17-inch platter is hand-turned from striking Padauk wood, whose natural grain fans outward like a glowing sunrise. The vivid reds and warm oranges create a dramatic, radiant look that shifts beautifully in the light, making this piece a true centre piece.
The platter was turned on a Record Power Coronet Herald wood lathe using carbide woodturning tools from Easy Wood Tools, allowing for clean lines and a smooth, flowing form. It was carefully sanded to 240 grit, then enhanced with Yorkshire Grit Original to refine the surface and bring out the depth of the grain. A final coat of gloss finishing wax adds a rich sheen and a silky feel while highlighting Padauk’s bold natural color.
Perfect as a display platter or statement art piece, this one-of-a-kind turning celebrates both craftsmanship and the stunning character of Padauk wood.
