Pink ivory handle, hard maple head, brass wedge. Head includes pith and one defect but has been dried in blank size for several decades. Defect closed with clear cyanoacrylate glue to strengthen and prevent propagation during turning.
Handle turned from rectangular blank to give it flat grips on side and below the head. Head turned from bowl blank, leaving flats on sides. Then 7 degree faces cut off on bandsaw.
Drilled slightly undersized hole for the wedge, allowing the handle to split naturally. Used black cyanoacrylate glue to infill and accent.
Sanded to 240 grit and finished with Ack’s abrasive paste then finishing wax. Colors depended with this. The handle went from a soft pink to the deeper red-orange.
Finished weight - 36.2 ounces. It’s terribly well balanced.
Finished dimensions - 8-1/4 inches tall, 4-3/8 inches deep, 3 inches wide.
