First Lady Emine Erdogan, wife of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, met with Her Imperial Highness Princess Akiko of Mikasa of Japan.
Emine Erdoğan hosted Princess Mikasa, who came to Türkiye for a series of programs, at the Presidential State Guesthouse.
In attendance at the reception were Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Gökhan Yazgı, Director General of Cultural Heritage and Museums Birol İnceciköz, as well as Japan’s Ambassador to Ankara, Katsumata Takahiko.
During the meeting, Emine Erdoğan emphasized that the archaeological excavations carried out in Türkiye under the leadership of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism together with the Japanese Institute of Anatolian Archaeology are of great value.
Pointing to the importance of these efforts for the future, Erdoğan expressed her gratitude for the excavation projects.
She also conveyed her best wishes for the excavation that will begin on September 20 at the Ayanlar Ruins in Şanlıurfa.
Princess Mikasa highlighted that the excavations are significant in terms of cultural heritage exchange between the two countries.
The meeting also touched upon the rich culinary traditions of both Türkiye and Japan, with Mikasa noting that both nations possess important historical civilizations.
Attracting attention during the meeting was Princess Mikasa’s brooch crafted with the traditional Turkish filigree technique, as well as the nail art she wore featuring the flags of Türkiye and Japan.
