In Osmaniye, saplings planted after the wildfire 4 years ago have grown over 70 cm in places.
The forest fire, which broke out in Kazmaca village on July 28, 2021, and spread to Karatepe village in Kadirli district, was extinguished after four days of intense intervention.
The blaze destroyed 4 homes, 12 barns, and damaged 3,042 hectares of forest.
To restore the scorched land, the Adana Regional Directorate of Forestry launched a large-scale rehabilitation effort.
2.5 million saplings planted
As part of the project, 369.9 hectares were left for natural regeneration with seed reinforcement by the Karatepe-Arslantaş Nature Conservation and National Parks team.
In addition, the Bozkuyu Forest Management team carried out artificial regeneration over 723.2 hectares and industrial afforestation over 1,948.9 hectares.
In total, 2.5 million saplings were planted in the affected areas.
