I this video I head into my home city of Oxford to try and photograph some scenes made famous by J M W Turner's paintings.
Sadly I wasn't blessed with any morning sunlight - which makes the stonework in the buildings look incredible! - but I will return!

Joseph Mallord William Turner, arguably one of Britains most influential and accomplished artists, visited Oxford many times during the 19th century and produced several paintings that captured street scenes in the city.
We've all heard of 'artistic licence' and I quickly learned that there is a lot used in Turner's paintings, buildings with parts missing or added on, and the impossible perspectives to give the viewer a more pleasing view of the scene to name but a few. Perhaps the equivalent of photoshopping out elements and making composite photos?!
What I also learnt was that it can be very difficult to try and recreate someone else's work and get the same sense of satisfaction you do from capturing something of your own.
