As I'm uploading this video, the MIDI version of Velocity is the most-viewed video on my channel, and by an enormous margin. Arranging it for the album was therefore quite daunting! The general popularity of Velocity/Charge even in evi2 as a whole hasn't been lost on me, and I can't say enough how much this means to me but also: AAAAAAAAAAAAA
If this track wasn't absolutely perfect, the album as a whole would suffer a lot, that's how it felt, and I think the scariest part of all of it, aside from mixing, was the guitar/synth duet. While my guitar playing is better these days, I feel that I'm not as good at keyboard as I used to be. Sadly there's not enough hours in the day for practicing. Or anything, really.
I don't think I'd want to get up on a stage and try to play those solos but I did get there with the recording in the end, which was a huge relief. This might surprise some of you but I find the piano solo later on much easier by comparison, maybe it's because I wrote it by playing in the first place, which I regrettably didn't do for the duet.
The small jiggle in the track order means Velocity and The Floating Islands are back-to-back on the album, and I honestly feel that these 10 minutes of music is my peak (so far?). I hope you are just as happy with it as I am :)
Also, to talk about my main instrument for a bit, the bass part is also my favourite to play from this album. I don't tend to ever run through my own stuff when playing bass casually but every now and then I still come back to this one.
