From the Raven MIDI Pack for Heretic, used on E5M2: Rapids.

Being very unfamiliar with Heretic, I claimed my slots in the MIDI pack by using a random number generator (1 to 29, each number corresponding to an available map). It added a fun lottery aspect, because it meant the maps were randomly chosen for me as opposed to scanning through and finding something I liked the look of. If I hadn't done this, I probably would have chosen E5M2 anyway. After claiming my slots, I looked around the maps and Rapids really stood out to me with its fast-flowing water channels and caverns. I knew a faster-paced track was in order here, and with all the water, I wanted to try and blend the Heretic sound with that 'pirate' feel that people mention every time I write in 6/8 :o)
I had listened to Jimmy's "Ravine" for E5M1 about a month earlier, when it was first posted. After I finished writing Turbulence I was HORRIFIED to learn that Ravine had wedged itself in my subconscious and as such, the main melody in Turbulence is almost identical to a part of Ravine! In fact, Jimmy thought that I'd done it on purpose to create a musical consistency between the two levels. Yeahhhh, we'll go with that... :P
Turbulence was quite a fun track to write and record, although the writing did take a bit longer than I hoped it would. It's probably my favourite of my Raven tracks.
