LANSING, Ill. — Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra musicians got rave reviews last week as they performed their annual free concert in Lansing.
“I just want to get up and dance,” Lansing resident Brittney Beck-James said, describing the composition as beautiful and calling it a perfect tribute in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Ashley Beck, from Posen, attended with Beck-James and agreed.
“The music is really moving,” she said.
Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra Conductor Kirk Muspratt took concertgoers on a journey through 250 years of American history last Friday as the symphony kicked off its South Shore Summer Music Festival in Lansing with classical marches, movie scores, and musical favorites from various decades.
The festival, a series of free outdoor concerts, is hosted in villages and towns in both Illinois and Indiana. Originally set to perform outdoors at Fox Pointe, Lansing’s concert moved indoors to the Memorial Junior High School gym when wildfire smoke drifting into the region from Canada prompted an air quality alert.
