One of the two brand new Smartron locomotive which have arrived a few days ago, very quickly made its debut on a regular train of BDZ. Yesterday (18 December 2020) 80 035 (nicknamed Han Asparuh) already branded with his new BDZ livery, created by Konstantin Planinski (@BackOnTrackStudios), has served the night passenger train 2627 (Sofia - Varna, via Gorna Oryahovitsa).
After 26 miserable years, BDZ can boast that it has brand new locomotives. The State company desperately needed some fresh additions to its locomotive park, because most of the Skoda locomotives aren't in a good condition, mostly because of the lack of good maintenance. From the Romanian class 46 locomotives only a few are running, so the Smartrons should be the salvation for the BDZ - PP at this stage.
On the video you will see the coupling to the train of the Smartron and the regular Skoda locomotive (45 113) and its departure from Sofia central station on a cold and very foggy evening of 18 December 2020.
