Tostarena Ruins or the Desert Kingdom from Super Mario Odyssey! AKA an excuse to make a downright dirty metal song.

Somehow this track is still my favorite mix on the EP! As we get closer to finishing the videos of my and Christian's Mario album, MOON ROCK, we get to play what I consider the most "metal" song of the five! Tostarena Ruins started as an idea to really rip apart the original's use of Eastern instrumentations and scales to create something nasty. While we wanted to potentially add more guests, the revised version of the song had nothing but raw riffs and extremely hard-hitting drums. It was one of my favorites to play bass on, and while Christian took some of the cool lead parts I got to create this neat acoustic environment with tablas, shakers, and of course the old nylon/steel-string duo. The end result is just silly levels of heavy, and even days before release were adding bass booms and transitions to up the stakes.
Christian and I are both really working hard on tons of things post-MOONROCK as well but I know we are so grateful for the reception to these videos, the Bandcamp sales, the streams, and kind words. Though there is a brand new album I'm releasing next month, I hope anyone who enjoys these videos checks out both Christian's channel and our album!
