The tilt feeder is designed to prolong feeding, getting the animals to work for their food by tilting the device back and forth so that it can be accessed through the hole at the end of each channel. The ease of the tilt can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the bolts at the hinge.
This video was the first time the otters at Whipsnade had the feeder, and as you can see the tilt didn't work as intended, so it will need to be loosened before trying again. The polycarbonate can easily be removed for cleaning and refilling with food, making it very easy to use.
