We've now been working with Yorkshire Wildlife Park for a few years, and one of the projects we had been asked about on a couple of occasions was to build some platforms/resting areas for the lions. And so for the first 'Building with BITE' event, where members of the public can take part in one of the builds, the lion area was a perfect fit.
Over the half-day build, the group were split into several teams, all making a part of this structure. With the large top frame in place, the other groups could work downwards, creating the steps/smaller resting areas.
The idea of this project was two-fold. First of all to give the older girls an area to rest that would be warm, off the ground, and offer great views. And secondly, we knew that the younger rescued lions would be moved to this enclosure eventually, so it would give them a great place to play and rest, as well as eat.
A huge well done to all the individuals that joined us on the day, it was a great event that we were proud to be a part of. A huge thanks to @Premierforestgroup for providing the timber to make this project possible.
