Single leg hops tell you a lot:
1️⃣ Tolerance to bone stress
Specifically, look for hesitancy to hop on one leg and pain in one specific point on the inside of the bottom 1/3 of the tibia.
2️⃣ Lateral hip strength
Go beyond just a manual muscle test laying on your side on a table and see if athletes can actually hop on one leg.
3️⃣ 30 cm lateral hop test
16-18+ foot contacts in 20 seconds is a good target for return to play late stage post op ACL or from other lower limb injuries.
It's also a good indicator of readiness for contrast pairing between strength and plyometric exercises.
