Pastors at New Birth Church recently used communion as part of an offering appeal, and this is exactly the kind of thing that needs to be addressed. Communion is not a fundraising tool. Communion is not a gimmick. Communion is not supposed to be used as a way to pressure people into giving money.

The Lord’s Supper is sacred. It points us to the body and blood of Jesus Christ, His sacrifice on the cross, His death for sinners, and the hope we have in the gospel. It is a time of remembrance, reverence, examination, worship, and proclamation of the Lord’s death until He comes.
So when communion gets tied to money, offerings, seeds, financial breakthroughs, or giving appeals, it raises serious concerns.
In this video, we talk about what happened at New Birth Church, why this approach is troubling, and why Christians should be careful when sacred ordinances are blended with financial pressure. The problem is not generosity. Christians should give generously, cheerfully, and sacrificially as the Lord leads. The problem is when giving is attached to spiritual pressure, emotional manipulation, or sacred moments that should be centered on Christ.
Communion is about Jesus. It is not about raising an offering.
The New Testament does not present the Lord’s Supper as a money moment. It is not a time for leaders to leverage emotion, guilt, or reverence to collect funds. When pastors turn communion into a giving opportunity, it can confuse the purpose of the ordinance and shift the focus away from Christ and onto money.
That is dangerous.
The church must recover reverence for the things Christ gave to His people. Baptism and communion are not props. They are not marketing tools. They are not fundraising strategies. They are sacred practices that point us to the gospel.
In this episode, we examine why using communion for an offering is problematic, how churches can misuse holy moments to create pressure, and what biblical giving should actually look like. Giving should be voluntary, cheerful, and rooted in love for God—not driven by guilt, fear, or a manipulated worship atmosphere.
