So, I was doing some planning for this story while my brother helped me out with mapping their world, and it reminded me I needed to finish this (I hate it, but truly, vidding these two is IMPOSSIBLE, so Im just going to accept it is what it is and upload it) - because Riven deserves better. I dont talk about him enough.
Don’t get me wrong, Scoro’s wonderful, I love him to bits (and, if Solemn had had longer to grow hed probably have been a perfectly good match for Aetari, too), but I’m about to break down some of the reasons Riven is actually the best man in Aetari’s life (I’m not even going to include the other men in Aetari’s family, see Corvus is an absolute arse, in this, just the potential love interests). Forgive me - coherency may go out of the window in favour of passion.
For a start, Riven falls in love with Aetari at the worst moment in her entire life. Solemn gets an idealised version of her (shes in a new place, surrounded by new people - she stamps down some of her less desirable traits to garner favour), and Scoro might know her best, but until Solemns victory, their entire existence had been pretty charmed, so hes never had to deal with her at her worst.
Riven does. Riven gets the angry, bitter, heartbroken Aetari, and he still falls for her. Even after Ashin begins to doubt her, after even Euphoria gives up. Hes the one who gets her to remember that even if Corvus and Scoro seem to have betrayed her, theres still goodness in the world.
Solemns interest in Aetari is, almost entirely physical. Before he even began his invasion, hed heard of her and his interest was piqued. It was more of a reason for his invasion that even land or resources. He eventually develops a genuine interest in her as a person and genuine affection if not love, but his primary way of relating to her is physical.
Even after realising Aetari loved/potentially still loves Scoro, Riven goes on a rescue mission to save him. Only because he knows how much he means to Aetari - even if shes in denial after his supposed betrayal. After the death of Aetaris father, Solemn agreed to attend the mourning week, but spent most of it keeping an eye on Aetari/Scoros closeness and going out of his way to keep them apart (what Im basically saying is he would absolutely have left Scoro to Corvuss mercy, regardless of Aetaris feelings).
So, yeah. Rivens the best and deserves better.

Kestrel & Acacia - Always Been You

This was a very happy coincidence of this MEP needing a fill-in just as I began to develop the story of these two and the song just happens to work very well for them.
Backstory; Acacia and Kestrel are on the opposite sides of a generations long war between their families. When Kestrels brother and Acacias sister fall in love, Acacia is killed at the engagement dinner by Wren, Kestrels elder sister. Kestrel, a soul catcher, accidentally catches Acacia leaving him with an imprint of her in his head.
Aetari & Riven {+Solemn} - Always Been You

After her father’s kingdom is conquered, Aetari is given in marriage to the conqueror, Solemn. Solemn is eventually killed on the orders of Aetaris brother, Corvus. Solemn’s death leaves Aetari in the care of Riven, Solemn’s best friend and personal guard who has always seemed to hate Aetari - the truth is, however, more complicated.
Ilyiah & Gaius - In The Shadows

Seeking to sway public opinion in his favour, he forces Ilyiah to marry him and to secure an heir after he sacrificed his son for more power. Ilyiah will always hate him. When she eventually gives birth to a son, by her lover, Aharon, she is told the child has died - a fact she blames on Gaius continuing use of dark magic.
Sayah & Aharon - Not Alone

Peregrine & Pidge & Kestrel - Shes The Northern Light

Mostly adorable siblings being adorable.
After Acacias death at Peregrines engagement feast, Pidge is held responsible as it is her spell that went wrong - secretly it was Wren who tampered with it. She swears off magic until she can figure out what went wrong - at least until it becomes clear that Kestrels own brand of magic is becoming dangerous to his health. Peregrine, for his part, just wants everyone to be happy.
Amaryllis & Finch {+Hawthorn] - Descent
𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘰𝘰𝘯
The origins of the war that ultimately leads to Acacias death.
Amaryllis, Finch and Hawthorn grew up together, when Hawthorn inherited his mothers throne, he betrayed the friendship by marrying Amaryllis - who was in love with Finch. Hawthorns jealously ultimately led him to betray his former best friend and send him into a battle he couldnt win. Amaryllis would eventually die giving birth to Finchs daughter; Cherry.
Aetari & Scoro [+Riven] - Cant Look Away
Even as children, Corvus was very domineering where Aetari was concerned. Her only source of comfort was Scoro (and the fact that any time Corvus upset her, Scoro would immediately ask him to practice their swordsmanship and promptly knock him on his arse). Over time, their almost sibling like affection grew into mutual attraction - which was never acted upon. After Aetaris marriage to Solemn, Scoro remains a loyal guard at Corvus side, when shit hits the fan, however, Scoro begins to realise he may be on the wrong side and ultimately becomes something of a double agent for Aetari.
