Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver have such incredible and fascinating character work it's kind of unbelievable. If the character has a proper name and unique design it's almost guaranteed they were explored in some deeper way than in the originals- often with a chance to talk or hang out with them directly. Which makes for such an odd contrast with the two elite four Will and Karen. It feels shocking giving the depth in the rest of this world that these two powerful players have virtually no background in the mainline canon. Like most big name trainers, there's things to gleam off of their teams, their design, and dialogue, but they actually are seems like it's going to remain a mystery. In some ways it is a positive though, as it furthers this Air Of Mystery for two late game players and gives the world some mystique- so as much as it is a big question it's also pretty cool. Even cooler than mudkip! This one's for all the Absol, Bronzong, and Crobat fans out there.
