In some church environments, silence isn’t accidental. It’s trained.
When a woman knows she won’t be believed (or worse, will be blamed), she learns quickly what’s “safe” to say and what isn’t. So she adjusts. She performs. She becomes who she needs to be to survive.
On the outside, she looks strong, capable, even admirable. But inside, there’s another story.
A quieter self. A silenced self. A self that knows something isn’t right but doesn’t feel allowed to name it.
Over time, that split creates a kind of loneliness that’s hard to explain, because it’s not just about being unseen by others. It’s about being disconnected from your own voice.
And healing often begins the moment that voice is finally allowed to speak.
