GG wanted to cover a song by a female artist on the (not yet titled) Carnival of Excess album. He’s stumbled upon the perfect song, Carmelita, as sung by Linda Ronstadt. He didn’t realize that she was actually singing a song written by the legendary Warren Zevon. This is the story of how GG’s Carmelita evolved in an old Florida bathroom (with the help of the Razor) to becoming one of his most accessible and (arguably) most popular songs in his extensive catalog. Paul Reller’s production (and iconic accordion solo) have made this track something that the world, at the time, thought was impossible. That somehow, in the future, GG’s voice would be heard as David Duchovny floats in a pool pondering his life as Hank Moody. Not a Chance! GG Allin on Showtime? No Way!! It Did happen and the popularity of GG’s Carmelita has not slowed down after all of these years.
GG’s version of Carmelita has been used in several film projects including Todd Phillips Hated and Showtimes Californication. As mentioned in the video, GG’s (official) video for Carmelita over a million times. The link is below along with the others that I mention in the video.
