Doing a project with GG Allin had it’s challenges, but….equally challenging was doing a project with the sixties legend, the one-and only, TINY TIM! I brought Tiny Tim to Tampa Florida in 1994 and we recorded his fantastic big band album titled, Prisoner of Love (a tribute to Russ Columbo). We recorded ten songs, two per night for five nights, live on a soundstage to preserve the integrity of the tracks as they were originally recorded. This is a little story about how I got involved working with Tiny. The interesting thing that I discovered while working with Tiny Tim and GG Allin, is how similar that they both were on several levels, not on the surface, but certainly as I got to know them both on a deeper level. While GG was a fan of Tiny’s music, they couldn’t be further apart in their approach to life and society. I played Tiny GG’s album that was recorded a few years earlier in Tampa titled Carnival of Excess. While he didn’t agree with all of the lyrics, he really like the cover GG did on the Warren Zevon classic, Carmelita. Ponk was thrilled to have worked with (what some consider) the “wildest and weirdest” musicians in music history. Thank you for checking out the content and for the support. It’s much appreciated!
