Batgirl is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable female superheroes in DC, thanks to how integral she is to the Batman mythos. Her presence helped solidify the expansion of the Batfamily alongside Dick Grayson as Robin/Nightwing, which then led to the introduction of characters like Jason Todd (Red Hood), Tim Drake, and Damian Wayne. Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain, and Stephanie Brown are the three most notable characters to take up the mantle of Batgirl. These characters can be seen in a multitude of media, such as the DCAU Animated Series, DCAMU, DCEU, Batman: Arkham Knight, Gotham Knights, Young Justice, The Batman (2004), and many others. One of the biggest issues with the character lies in the undermining of Barbara's role as Oracle for a little while and the erasure of Cassandra and Stephanie's histories during the beginning of the New 52. As Oracle, Barbara was able to aid members of the Justice League and the Birds of Prey. James Gunn's DCU, kicking off with Superman, has the possibility of incorporating Cassandra Cain in The Brave and the Bold.
