- here I am again trying to copy the great Stewart Copeland. I have to admit straight away that I have always had difficulty with this one, and I think that shows in this video. I just don't seem to be able to get it as tight as I usually manage, and those damn fills in the chorus.......arrrggghhh!!
Although I do not personally consider this a Copeland classic, it still has the usual awkward stuff going on. For a start, he uses his trademark bass drum pumping out the eights (except on the 2 and 4, which only adds to the difficulty), and at this speed, that is a freaking nightmare! Then there are the fills in the chorus, with the crash -- pause thing going on. I hate them, 'cos I just cannot do 'em properly, ever!
I must admit, I do love the fill he does at 3'23 where the left hand catches the snare on the 16th note immediately before the crash -- that sounds epic!
The highlight of this track for me is where he comes out of the third chorus and launches into the fourth verse with a displaced backbeat thing. Very clever, very confusing, very cool!
I am sorry that this cover is not up to my usual standard. I have been too busy to practise sufficiently, if truth be told. Just out of shot is like 4 million boxes of my life's belongings -- I move house in five days time. So my mind is kind of elsewhere!
