I'm guessing no one will have heard of this band, or the song!
I know very little about them, save that my Step-Father was friends with most of them at Cambridge University in the late 1970's. Yes, really. Knowing I was interested in drums, in about 1981 he gave me a tape of them playing live, telling me that this was good music for me to learn from. He was not wrong, though I don't think I realised it at the time! Today, I realise they were a fucking awesome band!
I have done a bit of research on the net, and discovered that The Movies were rather bigger than I realised! They toured all over the UK and Europe and I think the States, and they had initially supported acts like Supertramp and Joan Armatrading. They appeared on the UK's 'Old Grey Whistle Test' on TV THREE times. They had several albumns. In short, they were not as obscure as you might think!
Anyway, I have drummed along to this wonderful groove of In The Big Boys Band for years, and have always loved the song. This version is from a live gig - I think it was on London's Capital Radio, but I really am not sure. The original version was on the albumn 'Double A', which I am sure I have somehere as a rare vinyl!
The drummer was (is) called Jamie Lane. He had a fantastic, fantastic groove, and never over-played. Brilliant.
Er, I admit that I definately DO overplay this, but that's 'cos I love it, and you lot don't know how it goes, and so I can get away with it (I hope). I LOVE half time shuffles (see Toto Rosanna and Shola Amar You Might Need Somebody and the shuffle solo I have uploaded previously) and this is actually my favourite of the lot.
I hope you enjoy the drumming anyway, even if you cannot hear the song fully, or even if you hate the song! It's gonna be interesting to see what you all say about the music....
BTW, these are some new black 'rock' Flix Sticks, with an extra band to make 'em sound 'tighter'. They are SWEET!
