When the 'Reverend' Jim Jones left San Francisco along with several hundred members of his Peoples Temple to set up their own commune in Guyana in 1977, his church (some would say cult) was already under heavy scrutiny for questionable practices and abuses towards former members. Few could have imagined, however, that within a year Jones and over 900 of his followers would commit mass murder-suicide, and the name 'Jonestown' would go down in everlasting infamy.
