Charles 'Lucky' Luciano, born Salvatore Lucania, was one of the most ruthless and effective leaders in the American Mafia's history. Widely recognised as the father of modern organised crime in America, he ruthlessly ended the Castellammarese War by having the leaders of both factions eliminated and established the Commission as the governing body of the American Mafia, a model that continues to this day.
