Relying solely on pace to dictate training is reductionist.

This misses the bigger picture.

This ignores other key factors to consider.

This is why you need to embrace HOW you feel when you run.

Understanding your own effort levels will allow you to take account for the things you cannot quite see and measure.

Some of the best runners in the world don't let pace or heart rate dictate training. They focus more on effort levels.

There are also times, where focusing too much on things like pace may be holding you back.

I have heard plenty of experiences where personal records are made in races where the person stopped worrying about the pace/watch.

Data can help guide you, but don’t let it disconnect you.

So instead of running away from your feelings, tap into them.

You may learn more about yourself and what you are truly capable of.
