It began in October 1977: three sex workers found strangled on hillsides north-east of the city of Los Angeles. Few paid any attention, as is tragically the case with many serial killings confined to such undesirables. Then, women from middle-class backgrounds began to be abducted and also found strangled on the LA hillsides. It was only then that people started to pay attention, and the killer was dubbed 'The Hillside Strangler'.
The killer terrorised LA until February 1978, but then abruptly stopped. Following an intensive investigation, police discovered that they were not dealing with just one 'Hillside Strangler', but two.
Note that this program was made in 1992. Angelo Buono died in prison in 2002. Kenneth Bianchi remains in prison.
