Heat pumps are taking the world by storm and they are at the heart of the strategy for heating homes in Blatchford, the largest planned carbon neutral community in North America.
Blatchford has an innovative geoexchange district energy sharing system that uses 570 bore holes beneath Blatchford lake to feed Eneergy Center One where the 8-10C Earth heated fluid is upgraded further with a massive heat pump and distributed to the homes of Blatchford.
Heat pumps are the only proven method of heating buildings without fossil fuels with efficiency rates of up to 400% for heating and 700% for cooling.
One builder in Blatchford is also using Air-Source Heat Pumps combined with solar in amazing net-zero homes that can cover nearly the entire utility bill with solar revenue.
We talk to residents who were skeptical about heat pumps at first, but all of which have grown to love the heating systems.
We also talk to Steve Oslanski of Envirotech Geothermal, the company that is installing the ground-source heat pumps in most of the homes in Blatchford to learn more about The Magic of Heat Pumps.
