In this clip taken from a longer video (in which I discuss whether it's possible to determine where Socrates' philosophy end and where Plato's philosophy begins) I focus on the evolution of Plato's dialogues and philosophy.
Starting with the early dialogues such as Eutyphro, Crito and Apology that were largely of an epistemological method and focusin on the Socratic method or elenchus which had as a goal to examine n the validity one's epistemic and moral beliefs through a series of question that would ultimately result in aporia, the confusion that makes one realise they know much less then they believed they do. Today individuals such as Peter Boghossian and Anthony Magnabosco take a lot of inspiration from those early dialogues of Plato in their method.
Later on Plato moved away from this method in the middle dialogues like Phaedo and The Republic and late dialogues such as Statesmen and Thaetetus by focusing more on the concept of the soul, how society should be run as well as the theory of form. In order to do so, Plato creates the character of Socrates that is very different from the one we see in Plato's early dialogues. This new Socrates is more confident and dogmatic in his philosophy.
There are 3 main theories as to why this shift has happened which I go through in this video.
