Have you ever wanted to get into philosophy but you didn't know where to start? It's not that uncommon. Philosophy is a broad subject that may seem intimidating at first and since there are so many texts and thinkers you can get into, you may be asking yourself what's the best gateway point into the world of philosophy In this video I present you with a literature list of most essensial philosophy texts.
There are two best ways, in my opinion, to approach philosophy. You can either read the texts chronologically or you can dive into the branches and topics of philosophy that interest you the most. For the chronological approach, I go through the presocratic philosophers, including the atomists like Democritus and sophists like Protagoras, Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus, stoic philosophers like Cicero and Marcus Aurelius, Descartes, Spinoza, Hume, Kant and finally continental philosophers like Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and Heidegger. Additionally, I also recommend eastern philosophers such as Zhuang Zhou (Zhuangzi), Confucius and Lao Tsu.
As for the the second approach, I present you with the reading material within the fields of logic, epistemology, metaphysics, ethics and politics as well as recommend few thought experiments such as the ship of Theseus and the trolley problem.
