○ Temple of Artemis at Ephesus - The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World | Part 4 youtu.be/OzPw-JN77jM
What if I told you the Statue of Liberty was built to imitate a wonder of the ancient world?
The colossus is the wonder of the ancient world that we know the least about. We don’t know where it stood, or what it looked like, but by using ancient sources, we HAVE been able to come up with some educated guesses.
We know for certain that the sculptor who created the Colossus was Chares of Lindos and it was built between 294 and 282 BCE. He did such a monumental job, that the term colossus, which was originally just a word for any statue or statuette, came to be used only for gigantic statues.
