When Nixon became President in 1969, he started to make changes to the Vietnam War. The main of these included Vietnamisation. This was a technique aiming to replace American soldiers with ARVN troops. Along with Vietnamisation, Nixon introduced a bombing campaign of Cambodia called Operation Menu and an invasion of Laos in 1971 called Operation Lam Son 719.
