The Christmas Guest

Here is a special Christmas song that I recorded last night with Aileen. It’s a Christmas song you will not have heard before, as it is based on a poem by Winifred M. Letts entitled “The Christmas Guest,” for which Aileen composed a new air. The poem, written over a 100 years ago, tells of an ordinary woman imagining Mary calling to her door with the infant Jesus in her arms. It is very much a woman’s poem, and Aileen’s interpretation brings the words to life through an emotive air and a drone accompaniment. Gorgeous sound and words, and I urge you to listen to it.
