The Rising of the Moon - Performed by Nellie Fortune

I finished work at 9pm this evening and when I looked outside I noticed a great yellowy white moon rising. Knowing Nellie has been singing a version of The Rising of the Moon, I went up to her in her bedroom and asked her if she'd sing it for me. Money was involved - but that's grand as you should always pay the artist!

Anyway - time was tight so I hooked up a good directional mic to my phone and out to the field we went. We did a few takes but this was the last and most complete version and as you can see, light was fading. She was lovely singing and playing and I kinda like that dark, hazy broken up light - rather than studio lights and 5,000 takes and cuts. It is what it is and most of all Nellie's singing was lovely.

By the way she gives a smirk towards the end as the donkey was behind me biting my arm and nudging me!

Anyway - have a listen and by the way the song was written by John Keegan Casey back in the 19th century and she got this version from the American singer Tia Blake who recorded it in the early 1970s.
