The ATF just floated something gun owners have been asking for for years:
Same-day Form 4 approvals.
Suppressor approvals while you’re still standing at the counter.
That is a massive shift.
For anyone new to this, there was a time when buying a suppressor meant paying your money, filing your paperwork, and waiting months — sometimes close to a year — before the government finally gave you permission to take home something you already bought.
Now the ATF Director is saying Form 4 approvals should be same day, or at least fast enough to happen while you’re still at the store.
That is a win.
Take the win.
And I get it.
A lot of gun owners are angry at the ATF.
They have every reason to be.
The agency has spent years earning distrust from the very people it regulates.
But when the one director in our lifetime starts saying the things we’ve been asking for, maybe we shouldn’t immediately tell him to quit, burn it down, and go home.
I want the NFA gone too.
I’d throw the whole thing in a wood chipper tomorrow.
But until that happens, making the system faster, less abusive, and less ridiculous matters.
Same-day tax stamps matter.
Form 4 approvals at the counter matter.
Regulatory changes that help gun owners matter.
Could this all be reversed by the next administration?
Absolutely.
That’s why we still need real law, real precedent, and real structural change.
But you don’t fix decades of rot by running off the one guy finally holding the shovel.
So let him cook.
