Lewis Hamilton called Jon Jones a coward.
Why?
Because Jon Jones shot a feral hog from a helicopter with an AR-15, then donated the meat to an underprivileged family.
Lewis said a real man would use a spear or a bow and give the animal a chance to fight back.
I’m a Lewis Hamilton fan.
Genuinely.
But this argument is completely upside down.
A spear is a tool.
A bow is a tool.
An AR-15 is a tool.
The only difference is where Lewis decided to draw the line between “honorable” and “cowardly.”
And once you actually think through the mechanics, the AR-15 is not the cruel option on that list.
A rifle round from a competent shooter ends the animal quickly.
A spear in a 250-pound feral hog starts a chase.
That chase ends whenever it ends.
And if the concern is the animal suffering, then the spear is not the moral high ground. It is the slower, bloodier, more painful option.
But this story is bigger than Jon Jones and Lewis Hamilton.
America has millions of feral hogs tearing up crops, destroying land, spreading disease, and causing billions in damage and control costs. These animals reproduce fast, move in groups, and nothing on foot closes the gap fast enough.
That is why states like Texas allow aerial shooting under specific rules.
It is not licensed as sport hunting.
It is depredation work.
Pest control with a rotor on it.
And that is the part people miss when they watch a clip and judge it like it is some rich guy playing a game from the sky.
Jon Jones took one animal out of a massive destructive population, ended it quickly, and gave the meat away to a family.
Lewis wanted a version that sounds more honorable but likely causes more suffering and does nothing to the actual problem.
And honestly, the spear was never really a real offer.
Lewis has been plant-based for years, with animal welfare as the stated reason. So if Jon had taken that hog with a bow, spear, or anything else, that message probably still gets sent.
The real objection was not the helicopter.
It was not the AR-15.
It was the dead hog.
That is a fair belief to have.
But it is a different argument than calling another man a coward.
So let’s talk about what this really was:
Hunting?
Sport?
Pest control?
Or just another example of people hating the tool more than they understand the problem?
