An MMA fighter said guys who carry guns are “pussies.”
And honestly?
He kind of has a point.
Not because carrying a gun makes you weak.
Not because gun owners shouldn’t carry.
But because if you carry a gun, you have to become the kind of person who walks away from dumb fights.
You have to swallow your pride.
You have to de-escalate.
You have to avoid stupid conflicts that other people may be willing to turn into something deadly.
That’s the part a lot of gun guys don’t like to hear.
Carrying a gun does not mean you can skip learning how to fight, move, think, or control yourself under pressure.
If you’re young, healthy, and physically able, you should absolutely know how to throw a punch, block one, move your feet, and defend yourself without immediately reaching for a firearm.
But the “just learn to fight” argument also has limits.
What about the grandmother?
The grandfather?
The person with a bad hip?
The smaller woman facing a much stronger attacker?
That’s why the gun matters.
It is the equalizer.
It gives people who cannot win a fair fight a fighting chance when life is not fair.
But if you carry, your ego becomes dangerous.
A parking-lot argument, a shove, a challenge, or a dumb little conflict can turn into a gun fight the second that weapon becomes part of the equation.
Even if you never draw it.
Even if you win the fistfight.
Even if you were right.
Because once you have a gun on your hip, there is no such thing as a small conflict.
So yes, train.
Learn to shoot.
Learn to fight.
Get in shape if you can.
But also learn to walk away.
Because the strongest thing you may ever do as an armed citizen is let somebody think they won while you go home alive and free.
