A woman was dragged down a Fort Worth street at night and beaten with the handle of a machete.
The city had reportedly been warned about the man before.
The neighbors knew he was a problem.
But when the screaming started, the thing that saved her wasn’t the system.
It was an armed neighbor.
According to police, when the neighbor tried to intervene, the man with the machete turned on him.
That is the moment everything changes.
This wasn’t a man looking for a fight.
This was a neighbor walking toward someone screaming for help — and then suddenly becoming the next target.
A machete closing distance is not something you negotiate with.
It is not something you reason with.
And if you take the gun out of that neighbor’s hand, this story probably has two victims instead of one.
