Palo Pinto Mountains State Park, Strawn (2026)
It's no secret that Texas is big, but every once in a while this state surprises even me — and Palo Pinto Mountains State Park is one of those surprises. This is Texas's first brand new state park in 18 years, and let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

We're talking 16 miles of scenic trails winding through rugged rock formations that look like they got lost on their way to West Texas. There's a peaceful 91-acre lake perfect for spotting wildlife, including bald eagles if you time it right. Turns out, Texas had one more mountain hideaway up its sleeve, and now you can go find it yourself.

If hiking, camping, and getting off the beaten path sound like your kind of day trip, Palo Pinto Mountains State Park needs to be on your list. Grab your boots — I'll see you on the trail.
