Taquitos Ravi - Laredo (2017)
Here's something most Texans don't know. Right there on the banks of the Rio Grande,
in a city that sits closer to Mexico City than it does to Dallas, there's a little
family-run taqueria that's been quietly making some of the best tacos in the entire
state of Texas since 1977.
That's right. Taquitos Ravi started as a humble spot on Market Street in the heart
of Laredo — and it grew. Not because of a marketing campaign or a food blogger.
Because the food is that good. Word traveled. Families kept coming back. And today
there are multiple locations across the city, all of them still family-run, all of
them still cooking like it matters.
Here's the thing about Laredo — it's not a city that's trying to impress you. It's
a city that's been itself for a very long time. And Taquitos Ravi is exactly that.
No frills. No performance. Just carne al pastor shaved off the trompo, tucked into
doubled-up yellow corn tortillas, and topped with fresh pico and onion. The salsas
are made fresh daily — you can taste the guajillo, the pasilla, the ancho, the
jalapeño. Whoever said border food was simple never sat down at this table.
The taxi drivers know it. The customs agents know it. The locals have known it for
almost fifty years. Now you do too.
