Description: Here's a quick look of what a PG506 Calibration Generator looks like inside. I purchased off eBay from Expresstestservices, ( stores.ebay.com/expresstestservices ), to do calibration and repairs on the old Tektronix 2400 series scopes, particularly the 2445B and up. We have several of these at work and the boss asked me if I could fix a 2465B that failed Calibration. Without hesitation, I said I'd have a look at it. I was in for a big surprise at how hard it was to actually Calibrate one of this scopes without the recommended equipment. Especially if it's a B049999 and below serial number like mine is. If you’re not going to actually calibrate it you have to go through the CAL 01 thru CAL 09 or you’ll get a “TEST 04 FAIL XX” if you have calibration constant issues. This is no easy task if you don't have experience doing it and almost impossible without the right equipment and an understanding and knowing what signals to plug into the scope and why. You can copy someone else's calibration constants and with the right equipment copy it to your A5 Controller Board RAM, only if it’s serial number B050000 and above. Copying someone else’s cal constants only tricks the A1 Main board into thinking you have calibrated it when it's not.
On another not, so last year I purchased a Tektronix 2445B that needed work. I've kind of fallen in love with these old scopes. I even have one on my work bench in an active repair center. We have several of these at work and they work pretty good for an old outdated scope. I think our newest scope is a TDS620A if that tells you anything about how far a company will go not to spend any money on updating equipment. In their behalf though I will say the purse strings are extremely tight! So anyways I'm going to try and calibrate a broken 2465B without these modules, the called out equipment.
