Well, here’s another situation where I unintentionally benefited.
I have been wanting a Technics SA–R477 for a while now. The first one I bought two months ago was DOA and I returned it.Then I bought this one on eBay and it arrived damaged. Had it all packaged to return and the seller told me to keep it and they did a shipping claim.
Invested about two hours of time to re-solder the power, speaker and headphone jack board. Also had to address a broken foot and all sorts of plastic clips inside which have broken. That’s where hot glue comes in handy.
100 W per channel, 1989. It’s the newer version of the SA-R430/530 from 1988. These were top-of-the-line units.
Right now it’s performing great this has an STK chip. But the surround does not work, I’ve confirmed that the amp works fine, but there’s something feeding it that is not working. I suspect a bad OPamp or chip somewhere.
This is such a fudged together unit and not up to my collection standards, even though everything seems to work right now, with the exception of the rear surround. I’m going to probably find another one that’s in better shape or I will part two units together and then sell the second one. So I’m on the hunt for another.
Have a great Labor Day weekend, everyone!
