OK. Here’s another good receiver that was re-biased tonight. Sansui 7900Z from 1980. 100WPC.
This has been a solid performer given its potential history. It was absolutely filthy and cost me $7.99 at Goodwill a year ago.
Most vintage receivers are significantly off from a bias perspective and usually on the lower end. This receiver was actually running hotter than it should, probably actually putting out more wattage but after adjustment is now within spec, the way it should be operating.
Kind of a strange unit, it’s got a great digital tuner, but then there’s an analog representation that is also digital. There’s no string and dial here. Although from a distance, it might look analog. While this might seem silly today, this was emerging technology and various manufacturers did different things to make the conversion from analog to digital tuning easier for the customer.
I love the integrated spectrum, analyzer, power, lights, and all the other bells and whistles.
