Ivar is the first boss Leia fights that doesn't have Iron Stance. It's because of this that he can counter after a single hit. This made the approach rather limited, since committing to certain artes will have him counter me quickly before I can recover or leave me vulnerable. That means fighting him is basically tit-for-tat.

His aerial counter of choice is Rending Slash. Rending Slash has a high upward/forward hitbox that was the cause for most of my losses. If I Rending Quake him(and he doesn't counter), then time a Crescent Flash, I can get him to ground cancel it(RS). It felt like he was less likely to air counter if I spaced from him while in the air. I use that spacing to provoke him to OVL or just not counter at all, but it is not consistent. Therefore, if he gets the counter proc when I RQ him, I generally won't attack until I land; else, I'll CF with the intent to ground-cancel his Rending Slash. Occasionally I might CF him even if he does get the counter proc on RQ, but in those instances, I'll try and wait to see if he'll actually counter, and CF him if I think he won't.

Phantom Surge in the later half was also a problem, but I found if I stay on top of him, or, prematurely sidestep when he reaches a certain range before using Darting Claw, I could avoid it.

side note: this is actually a redo; my first run of this felt a bit stilted, but after Julius, I had a smoother approach.
