On Demand News | Taiwan Preforms Wartime Simulations to Prepare for 'Changing Geopolitics' @OnDemandNews | Uploaded July 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 week ago.
This may look like a bombing of a civilian area.
But it’s all a simulation, in preparation for the real thing.
In the face of heightened tensions with China, Taiwan’s President says the island needs to prepare for ‘changing geopolitics’ which could lead to enemy attacks like these.
Local authorities tested their ability to respond to attackers and missile strikes.
They also practiced handling protests, evacuating civilians, putting out fires and distributing emergency handouts.
Land and naval exercises were also carried out as part of the annual Han Kuang military drills but air force activity was cancelled due to the threat of an approaching typhoon.
Beijing recognises Taiwan as a breakaway territory that will eventually return to Chinese rule, a claim that Lai’s governing Progressive Party reject.
President Xi’s government has launched major military drills around the island, simulating an attack.
