This is sample footage of Alex Gent (left) and Raj Soren (right) sparring with a variety of steel swords.
The Longsword and Sabre are weapons mainly used in HEMA - Historical European Martial Arts. In this video the Saber is used in together with a buckler and larger Rotella shield.
The double Thai swords are called Daab or Krabi. These are used in Krabi Krabong, which is a Thai weapons based Martial Art. They can be used duel wielding or single handed.
As we cross train in several styles of sword fighting, the type of combat demonstrated is not drawn from one particular medieval treatises or martial discipline. We have just applied skills we have gained through training in the above arts along with the footwork and principles found in Aikido.
The focus of each engagement is not to score points but to try achieve a clear direct hit on the opponent whilst covering any immediate counter strikes. We are experimenting with different distances and how this changes depending on the weapons used.
