So guess what we just saw on YouKu, the Chinese version of Youtube. A 25-year-old-Chinese student, rushed into a classroom full of people, and stabbed his roommate, who was sitting in the class.... 30 times!
I mean, that's just a little sick. That crazed student was said to be very shy and introverted, and spent most of his time sitting in his room playing video games. That doesn't sound like a murderer to me. But, from all the tragedies that have occurred in U.S. schools, we've kind of seen that people who commit these kinds of crimes aren't usually the most aggressive on a daily basis.
So this stabbing started over a World of Warcraft game, where a disagreement in the virtual world of "WOW" led to the one roommate poking fun at and annoying the other. The report says the victim here often "hid the mouse and computer" of his roommate. But really, to go and stab someone over this? WOW!
The crazy thing is he did it in front of his whole class, stabbing the victim 30 times in 20 seconds. That's a sign that someone has definitely been playing too many games if I've ever seen one.
To go from a disagreement in virtual reality, to real life murder, it really has me wondering whether video games played a role in the violence that occurred. Maybe it's a larger issue about the culture of violence in media and entertainment in this time and age. Or maybe we should focus more on emotional and mental help and counsel.
Regardless of what triggered this tragedy, it seems that we really need to find a solution to all this violence going on, especially because it's happening in our schools. Where we learn!
