The diagonal stride is the main technique that many recreational skiers use when they cross country ski. But in fact to stride well means getting good weight shift from ski to ski. However, most recreational skiers that I see ski slowly doing the shuffle - meaning both skis stay in the track. But as Doug shows in this video you can ski at a leisurely pace and still have good technique.
