When you think of ab exercises, most of us think of things like sit-ups, crunches, flutter kicks, etc. What if I told you to stop doing ab exercises? I promise there's a better way to condition your core. All of those exercises are just work for work's sake. They don't teach your body to move well. They just train muscles.
Your abs perform two functions. The first is obvious. It's to move your trunk. The second is to turn your trunk into an anchor for the rest of your body to pull against. The basic gym ab exercises don't offer enough stimulation and environment for your body to organize through varied situations and environments. Adding intensity or complexity to natural movements does a fantastic job of conditioning your core. Remember a strong, mobile, and healthy core is a consequence of quality movement. Not the goal.
