This Little Giant sure lives up to its name! (Well, for it's size it's decent; I didn't have to wear hearing protection for this). I went to go see the Sterling Little Giant in Valley City do its daily noon blast since school was cancelled today (we got over 14 inches of snow over the weekend from a bad snowstorm, and the roads were still bad). This siren was installed in the 1920s and is still running strong. This is a 12 port Little Giant and is running off a little over 240 volts, hence it's higher pitch. I tried a new shot out on this one, and for the most part it came out pretty good. If you look carefully, you can see the rotor spinning while the siren is sounding and during the wind down.
This siren is on a timer, and this siren goes off every day at Noon (excluding Sundays). Valley City/Liverpool Township has a 2001-130 less than a mile away which is used for tornado warnings and is part of the Medina County Siren System. This siren is only used for noon blasts now, but was used for fire calls and daily blasts a long time ago, probably since the 1920s when it was installed.
